Making Luna Lapin: DIY Wool Felt Heirloom Doll Rabbit with Clothes – Sewing Book Review

January 13, 2019.Reading time 7 minutes.

Hey Everyone, Garment making is interrupted to bring you something a little different today. Over the Christmas break I made a couple of heirloom dolls, namely two wool felt rabbits using the book, Making Luna Lapin by Sarah Peel. Long time readers of this blog will know that 1. this is not the usual kind […]

Happy Easter everyone! #ontheblog is my new trench. I first made this @mccallpatterncompany #b6331 trench 4 years ago - swipe to see how much my style has changed since then! It’s amazing what adding 35 cm of length can do to a pattern 😆 all the details on the blog now if you’re not too stuffed full of lamb and chocolate to read 🐣
Back again sharing another @pfaffuk sewing machine accessory. I am currently making #m8180 blouse with a large ruffled collar (swipe to see). The instructions require you to top stitch the facing into place 1.25 inches from the finished edge. I used this magnetic seam guide and it was so easy! The adjustable seam guide I shared last time only goes up to 1 inch so for instances where you might need your seam allowance delineated at a wider allowance than that, or you can’t use the adjustable seam guide, and want to make sewing precise widths easy, just put this magnetic seam guide at the required distance from your needle. It’s a strong magnet that doesn’t shift around. Simple, quick and effective.
This jacket was actually my first sewing project of the year. It’s @mccallpatterncompany #v7975 I had dreams of making a quilted french style jacket but didn’t want to invest in all the hand sewing involved so initially tried an “easier method”. When that didn’t work I had to make things work and this was the result. Fully interfaced and a great addition to my wardrobe, even if I do feel I am going to have to either add shoulder pads or take it in at the shoulders. You can get all the details on my blog.
As sewists we all want to improve our accuracy and precision, right? How about an adjustable guide foot that snaps on to your Pfaff machine? This one is designed to work with the inbuilt Pfaff IDT system and is adjustable from 3/8ths inch up to 1 inch. Wonky top stitching be gone! I am using this foot for the top stitching on my current sewing project; a trench coat. I will share the completed coat on my stories later this weekend, hopefully. I am also using my hump jumper to avoid thread nests and get smooth stitching on the underside of my garment as well.
