The weather has been planning havoc with my blog photography, and I have a backlog of things which need to be photographed. These photographs were taken early yesterday morning before dashing to work but I had to take the opportunity when it arose, as we have more heavy rain forecast over the weekend. Doesn’t matter. This sweatshirt brightens up even a dull day!
This was made using McCalls 7688 which I have made once before. I made the dress version with ruffles and ruching (later went back and removed the sleeve ruffles though) and I just love this second version! It’s amazing what using a different fabric and a few tweaks can make. Speaking of which, the fabulous animal print french terry (sorry, now sold out) was gifted* to me by Pin and Sew. If you haven’t heard of this independent UK based online fabric store, go check it out! The quality of their knits really is wonderful. This is the second knit of theirs that I have used, and I have sewn a third item up which will be on the blog soon (weather permitting). Keep reading for a discount code. Even though this particular french terry is sold out, there are lots of others to choose from on the website.
This medium weight french terry has already been washed twice and has come out pristine each time. It cut, sewed and pressed well. The matching ribbing was a lucky eBay find. And the sequin star? I downloaded a star template off the internet, cut the shape out of some scrap sequin fabric I had, fused it to a heavy weight interfacing and used my applique stitch on my machine to sew it on. It really elevates the piece I think.
Casual but stylish dressing is one of the hardest things to get right IMO. But I felt great wearing this sweatshirt to work with these pants. Not slobby at all.
- McCalls 7688 view A
- 0.5 inch full bust adjustment, with bust dart closed and rotated fullness taken out of side seam
- Added 1.5 inches to the front length and 2.5 inches to the back length and omitted the hem band, instead making a staggered length hem with side splits
- Added an applique sequin star motif
I have a discount code to share with you all. Use the code SEWMANJU20 when checking out at Pin and Sew for 20% off everything, including fabric, patterns and accessories. The code is valid for a week from today. Happy sewing!
*The fabric used to make this sweatshirt was gifted to me by Pin and Sew but all opinions are my own.
