Hi Everyone,
Has it already been 3 months since I made my first Zadie? It was the annual PTA ball at my daughters school, and this year I really wanted to accomplish two things:
- Make something using fabric from my stash and
- Make something which stood a chance of being worn again!

After much dithering, I decided to make a Zadie jumpsuit using some black wool crepe I had hanging around in my stash for a few years. I think it was the perfect choice, actually, and this is definitely an item which I think can be worn for so many occasions.

With the addition of hair, makeup and accessories, I felt comfortable and chic. It was just a shame the weather decided not to play nicely that particular night, but it didn’t spoil things too much. Apologies for the quality of some of the following photographs which were taken using an iphone.

Due to the inclement weather I decided to add a lightweight jacket to the outfit, and wore my Linton tweed jacket, made some 3 years ago using McCalls 7058. It helped keep the night chill away on the way home.

The only alterations I made to this version of the jumpsuit were to eliminate the pockets (fabric was tight and I thought it would make the jumpsuit seem a little more formal), extend the cut on sleeves by 1 inch, and extend the belt by 8 inches. The fit of this version is not as relaxed as the linen version, but I think that is good.

So another ball over and done with. Next year will be my daughters final year in junior school and there is a prom for her year which parents are also invited to attend. Matching mommy and daughter outfits? Nah, she already knows her own mind and what she wants, and that’s cool. But maybe next year I will go a little more extravagant? Watch this space…
See you soon!

Love the last photo (love all of them, really) – you both look stunning.
Thank you so much!
Such a nice version of the jumpsuit in black – you look so elegant!
Thanks Jenny
WOW. You brought the Zadie to a whole other level. You and your hubby both look so elegant. I don’t think the PTAs in Canada do formals. Definitely more civilized on your side of the pond.
Thanks Ruth. My daughter’s school definitely goes all out. It’s nice to dress up for a change and “do formal”.
This is beautiful and love that you made it from black wool crepe!
Thanks Carolyn. Wool crepe is something special, right?!
You look fabulous…and your date is looking sharp, too!! That’s the kind of out my Mom and I would call a “trolling” outfit. “Trolling” is the states is using a little bait on the line to catch a fish or two, maybe three. LOL Definitely wear it a million times. I had a similar jumpsuit, tho not in wool in the deep south, that I adored and wore til I had a baby and couldn’t squeeze into it. I think you will find you can wear it everywhere and beyond. Love you hair, did you do it yourself? Keep up the good work.
Lol, think we call trolling sharking in these parts. No, the hair was done by my hairdresser. Thanks!
Very elegant! Yours is possibly one the my favorite versions of this jumpsuit.
Thank you so much.
So elegant and classy, SM. You’re a fine looking couple. Isn’t it bittersweet how fast children grow up?
Thanks Caroline. Yes, it’s bittersweet indeed.
STUNNING ‼️‼️ A very elegant garment!
Thanks Marilyn.
You look lovely! 😍
Thanks Linda.
You look fabulous!
Thanks Abbey.
I just bought this pattern influenced by your previous post, I love this look too!
Thanks Robyn. Hope you love yours.
Wow! You look stunning! I never thought of making a dressier jumpsuit but it works so well. Awesome as always! 👍
Thanks so much Angela.
WOW!
This may be the Zadie that ‘tips the scales’ and has everyone (who hasn’t already) hit the ‘buy’ button!
Thanks so much Melody.
You look lovely and elegant. You inspired me to do something similar. Thank you.
Thanks Helene.
You look stunning Manju, what a gorgeous outfit.
Thank you Sam.
Oh wow! You look stunning in that outfit! I love all the changes you made to make this outfit, more formal – the fabric, the extension of sleeve, skipping pockets and extending the belt and the fit is perfect!!
Thanks Kay

You look fantastic and it’s especially nice to see you looking so well after all you went through in previous months. I love wool crepe, it’s the multipurpose fabric that works for so many styles. And you are giving me hair envy – looks so glam!
Thanks Beth: amazing what a few hair extensions can do, lol
You two look so stylish and handsome! Wonderful make, Manju, and the jacket goes well with it. Yum, planning for next year! Eager to see what you decide to do. 😘
Thank you so much Del. Next year seems a long way off yet…!
You look absolutely stunning. I loved the first one you made and this one is just as fabulous!
Thanks Natisha.
Your jumpsuit is gorgeous, and you look fab-u-lous!!!
Thank you Lynne.
What a fabulous outfit! There’s a great picture of you wearing it in this month’s issue if Carlisle Living.
Thanks Sara: always a bit surreal when my blog and real life collide, lol. Nice of you to follow along!
It’s beautiful. I hope you had a fabulous evening!
Thanks Janet, yes we did.
You are beautiful and the jumpsuit is amazing!
What an elegant version of this jumpsuit. I love it!
Thank you so much.
Wow this jumpsuit is amazing in the wool crepe. I just bought some wool crepe to make one. Do you have any tips for working with it?
You look gorgeous! I definitely like the facing better than the piping. Did you topstitch the facing down?
Thanks. Yes I did top stitch it in place.
