Hi Everyone!
Today’s post is a super short one to share my Blackwood Cardigan, by Helen’s Closet. I don’t think this pattern needs much of a review; the number of Blackwood Cardigan’s on Instagram and the internet is testament to what a great pattern this is. It is beautifully drafted, stylish, comes with wonderful instructions and is a pleasurable sew.

Actually, this cardigan was sewn up a few months ago and it was on high rotation until the warmer weather hit us. The soft pink sweater knit (an eBay find) is just an acrylic knit but the colour seems to go with so many things in my wardrobe. I would love to make this up in some better quality fabric if I could get my hands on any!

This version was made up straight from the PDF; I just graded out one size over the waist and hips. Next time round I would probably shorten the sleeves, tighten the wrists up and possibly shorten a smidge? I would like to try the shorter view too.

Truthfully, I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about until I tried this pattern for myself. But now I have made one version I can see me making more for the cooler weather. I love the slouchy style, but it doesn’t swamp you or look dowdy. Top marks Helen!
Until soon.

Lovely colour indeed. This pattern is brilliant. I have 2, wear them constantly, got another cut out and bought fabric for a fourth last week. 😁
I love your long version.
Thanks Patsy.
Lovely sweater! The color is perfect for you too. I am seeing all these versions on blogs and PR, and I think this will be one of my makes for fall. Hard to cut it out when it’s 95 degrees F. BTW, your slacks are really nice–what pattern did you use for them??
Thanks Laurie. The slacks are Simplicity 8389.
Oh dear… here we are cross the pond in the midst of a heat wave, and you’ve got me thinking cardies. 😮
However, cooler weather will eventually prevail and I do need a decent pattern, one that doesn’t swamp me… thank you for this perfect solution!
It looks G.R.E.A.T. on you, Manju, and matching shoes is to die for.
Wishing you much success in finding the fabric of your dreams!
del (now beetling over your link……)
Thanks Del, it’s a great pattern.
The sweater looks great!
What size did you use? Does it run true to the pattern measurement?
Hi, yes I would say it runs true to size. I think I used a XL graded out over the hips.
The Cardigan is beautiful! But I am loving the pants! I’ve been drafting a wide leg pants pattern very similar. Making mine in big florals. :o) What pattern did you use?
Hi Eliz, thanks. The pants are Simplicity 8389.
